After a career as a journalist and news photographer, in 2013 I was awarded the Louis Malle Scholarship to pursue a Masters degree in Documentary directing at the National Film and Television School, United Kingdom. Since graduating, I have worked between New York and London for a wide range of networks and brands such as AL JAZEERA, FRANCE TELEVISIONS, ARTE, CHANNEL 4, AEON VIDEOS, PAYPAL, H&M and CROWN HOLDINGS. My films have received prizes and recognition at a number of festivals around the world, including Sheffield Doc/Fest, the prestigious IDA Awards and the Jury Prize at the Clermont Ferrand Documentary Film Festival.

My practice as a filmmaker is strongly influenced by my experience in photojournalism; human relationships are at the heart of my work and I draw inspiration from reality and true stories as the raw material of my films. Recently, my love of art, culture and well-crafted images has led to working with top galleries, museums, artists and art institutions such as CHRISTIE‚ÄôS, MoMA, the SERPENTINE GALLERY, the HOWARD GRIFFIN GALLERY, the KLEIN FOUNDATION and the LOUISIANA MUSEUM in Copenhagen.

I am also an occasional tutor at my former school, the NFTS, and a regular mentor at Screenskills, helping young British filmmakers to take their first steps into the industry.

I believe Cinema is everywhere and I am always interested in new collaborations - feel free to get in touch: contact@benjaminhuguet.com
