ARTE l Northern Soul Revival

Director of Photography

Ultra-rare African American soul vinyl, high-waisted trousers, and polished loafers: Tracks takes you deep inside two Northern Soul nights in the United Kingdom. Born in the late 1960s in the working-class towns of Northern England, the scene celebrates African American soul music. Today, a new generation of young Britons is giving Northern Soul a second wind.

Between crate-digging — the search for the rarest gems hidden in vinyl bins — and the passing down of knowledge from 1970s “OGs” to the “newbies,” we meet Greta Kaur-Taylor, DJ and founder of the Northern Grooves collective; Will Foot and Lewis Henderson, organisers of the Deptford Northern Soul Club nights; Jordan Wilson and Connor White, co-organisers of the Room at the Top parties; as well as all the “soulies” who keep the dancefloor moving.
